Gartner highlights sound recognition as a high-impact use for AI-powered smartphones

In a new report, analyst firm Gartner has predicted that AI features will become a critical product differentiator for smartphone vendors. They predict that by 2022 80% of smartphones will have on-device AI capabilities.

In the report and accompanying press release, the report’s author (CK Lu) lists the 10 uses for AI-powered smartphones:

  • Digital me
  • User authentication
  • Emotion recognition
  • Natural language understanding
  • Augmented reality and AI vision
  • Device management
  • Personal profiling
  • Content censorship/detection
  • Personal photographing
  • Sound recognition (they refer to it as Audio Analytic)
