In our recent independent smart home/AI survey of 6,000 consumers in the US and UK we asked them to select which features were ‘must-have’, ‘nice-to-have’ and ‘not important’ if they were about to purchase a new security camera for their home.

According to consumers, the top five ‘must-have’ features were:

  • Motion detection
  • Sound recognition
  • Smartphone alerts
  • Night vision
  • Automatic pan/tilt

When we focus on the responses from those who already own a smart home camera these features are still ranked as the most ‘must-have’ but their order changes. Sound recognition comes out on top as the most ‘must-have’ feature in cameras among those who already have experience of these devices.
